An ICT Kit for the Classroom

Managing ICT

This week saw about three years of hard work and planning eventually slot into place. All the ICT equipment we have scrimped and saved for, begged and borrowed is eventually up and running in the classroom -hurray! Each class now has an interactive whiteboard, digital projector, PC laptop for the whiteboard and digital stills camera. This is a basic kit for the classroom. In addition to this we have access to a class suite of PC tablets and associated software for the tablets and whiteboards. I know that some folk are of the opinion that interactive whiteboards are no longer the way forward but I feel that they still have an important part to play in our classrooms – especially pre 5 and primary. Also, we are in the extremely fortunate position of having tablets and whiteboards – the best of both worlds! The implementation of ICT skills is embedded throughout the curriculum and  both staff and pupils are motivated by the use of ICT to support learning and teaching. So far classes have responded favourably to their kit and I am looking forward to the next few weeks and months to see what happens next…

Great to catch up with you and your goings-on via your blog. Sounds like really good things are happening. Reading about your provision of resources, I’m quite envious! We’re working hard @ Cardross to reach the “basic kit” level – very far from the suite of tablets however!
I certainly agree about the whiteboards – a very useful and versatile tool. I’d love to get more ideas for their use without having to spend more money on published resources though. A future wiki perhaps?
Would be good to catch up @ SETT – I think we were @ College together back in the Dark Ages!

Hi Elspeth, good to hear from you! We are still at the early stages with regards software for the whiteboards, but we have had lots of fun with software from Sherston – we got a deal last year at SETT for a software bundle – to be recommended. We also are great fans of 2Simple software -Simple City and 2Handwrite have been our latest purchases and they are great on the whiteboards. Simple City is brilliant for pre5 and infants. I quite fancy a wee look at the 2Connect software Catherine was writing about in her blog. Think I’ll need to wander by the 2Simple stall next week!
Hopefully we’ll catch up at SETT for a blether about the Dark Ages!
